However, it was Mr Bridges assertion that the housing issue would be the significant factor to propel the Party back in government that was most audacious.

Mr Bridges was responding to a question if the Nats apparent failure in government to pre-empt the so-called housing crisis that could potentially keep them away from power even in 2020.

To which apt came the reply, “I would put it differently. Housing would be a significant issue why we will get back to government.

“My view is that we had a comprehensive plan in the housing when we were in government.

“But arguably though we needed to be quicker in showing everyone what we were doing.

“Now this government is going to do what we were doing, rebrand it and call it by different names.

“I don’t think though that [Labour’s] housing and Kiwibuild program would work.

“I think they will end up literally doing is taking what the private sector is doing and paying more to see the same to happen,” Mr Bridges said.

Mr Bridges also spoke in detail about his career in politics, race to the leadership, caucus reshuffle and the exodus of senior Party MPs since then.
