Albert-Eden Puketapapa Local Board urges resident to have their say on Auckland Council 10 year budget

The residents of Albert-Eden Puketapapa Local board are being urged to share their feedback on the Auckland Council’s 10-year Budget.
The Auckland Council is currently running consultation till Match 28 and organising several local events to encourage residents to give their feedback.
In this regard, the Albert-Eden and Puketapapa Board are hosting two events on Tuesday, March 20 and Thursday, March 22 respectively.
Auckland Council released the 10-year Budget plan earlier last month on February 28 for a consultation; to focus on building infrastructure and providing more transparency about what ratepayer money will be spent on.
Auckland Mayor Phil Goff had then said, “Our 10-year Budget sets out the critical investment and new funding mechanisms needed to ensure our city can address challenges such as traffic congestion, housing affordability, and protection of our environment.

As part of this consultation, the local boards want to know what you think of their priorities and key local advocacy projects for the 2018/19 financial year.
Priorities for Albert-Eden Local Board
- Provide funding to the community to identify, maintain and care for notable trees
- Work with neighbouring local boards and community groups to develop joint management plans for Te Auaunga / Oakley Creek and Waititiko / Meola Creek
- Investigate the creation of a cycling and walking connection between St Lukes and Greenlane train station
- Support local businesses to implement sustainable practices, such as alternatives to putting fat and oil down drains, or reducing plastic bag usage
- Advocate for a replacement aquatic centre in Albert-Eden and for an investigation into a replacement indoor multi-sport facility at Gillies Avenue, Epsom.

Priorities for Puketapapa Local Board
- Improve community facilities like the Waikowhai Coastal Walkway, Keith Hay Park and Harold Long / Fearon Park
- Plan for future development at Monte Cecilia, Mt Roskill War Memorial, Waikowhai and Margaret Griffen parks and greenways
- Support young people to get into work and to participate in decision making through training programmes and participation in the Puketapapa Youth Panel
- Continue the restoration of Te Auaunga / Oakley Creek catchment with naturalisation projects, installing markers and building a fale shelter to encourage neighbourhood understanding and connection to the awa
- Build pride in cultural diversity by providing programmes and events that celebrate the diversity of Puketapapa and help create a unique local identity.
