Indian farm worker dies trapped in potato harvester near Pukekohe

An Indian farm worker has died after becoming trapped in a potato harvester near Pukekohe, south of Auckland on Saturday afternoon, February 17.
The Indian Weekender has learned from unconfirmed sources in the community that the farm worker died in the accident was of Indian descent.
Earlier in the afternoon NZ Herald reported that four marked police cars, several unmarked police cars, two fire trucks and one ambulance were present in that area and the police restricted the flow of traffic on the quiet rural road which is flanked by market garden fields.
Fire and Emergency NZ say they were called to a property on Settlement Rd by ambulance to help about 12:47 p.m.
A Settlement Rd resident told the NZ Herald he drove past the scene where up to three fire appliances, two ambulances and police were gathered.
The man said workers at the potato farm had gone and only emergency services were at the scene.
The resident said the potato farm owners were responsible people who also notified neighbours of events and kept the area tidy.
The Indian Consulate office in Auckland said this is an unfortunate time for the family of the man and are providing all the necessary support at the moment.
More to come.
