Masjid-at-Taqwa to host summer youth camp for community

Masjid-at-Taqwa in Manukau is hosting its annual international summer camp with participants attending from New Zealand, Fiji, Australia and Malaysia. This is the twelfth year of the summer camp, and it will be held in Cambridge from Friday evening, February 23 to Sunday afternoon, February 25.
Children from the age of eight can enrol themselves to be a part of the camp, and they have to be accompanied by a guardian. Children above 14 years old can also participate in the camp.
“There is a great opportunity for fun and adventure along with learning in depth about Islam, quality countryside adventure for fathers and sons together, great opportunity for bonding and networking with Muslims and non-Muslims from outside Auckland,” a spokesperson for the At-Taqwa Trust told The Indian Weekender.
The summer camp hosts many spiritual, physical and group activities for the participants such as Islamic educational sessions, group discussions, lectures from scholars, problem-solving activities, presentations and Q&A sessions.
The summer camp also does sports activities such as football, swimming, basketball and volleyball, and survivor challenges like performing tasks, solving problems using clues in groups competing with other teams.
The purpose of this camp is to give youth and the young children a weekend of learning and as well as performing new activities, meet new people, make friends and establish a new bond with one another.
The activities held at the camp help the participants try new arts, learn more about the religion and convey the true message of Islam to the community.
“The idea behind the summer camp is that the youth learn as well as have a little fun at the camp. Such activities release their stresses of school studies and give them the opportunity to make new friends and learn news kills doing group activities,” a spokesperson for the summer camp said.
There are volunteers in every department at the summer camp right from cleaning to organising activities, health and safety and supervision.
“Every step is thoroughly planned and managed by organisers and volunteers under At-Taqwa Trust. We have prominent local scholars and scholars from outside Auckland to moderate and host activities for the children,” the spokesperson said.
The local community in South Auckland and the parents help raise funds, do volunteer works, provide transportation and help organise run the camp.
