Australian tourist assaulted trying to stop a racial attack on a man believed to be Indian

An Australian man on a tour to New Zealand was reported to have been assaulted when he tried to intervene a what appeared to be a racially motivated verbal altercation in Wanaka, South Island.

Detective Alan Lee said that the Australian man was assaulted by three men at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 20 at Puzzling World, a popular tourist destination in Wanaka town of South Island.

The victim of the verbal racial assault is believed to be of Indian descent and is yet to be identified.

Fortunately, the Australian tourist was not seriously injured during the attack. The man was checked by medical professionals in the town.

Police has requested anyone having any knowledge of the incident to come forward to help the police identify the perpetrators.

Police wanted to hear from anyone who saw a black Mazda ute with the registration plate ABA406.

The ute had a quad bike on the back at the time of the incident.
