Indians encouraged to make fire services a valid career option

The Indian community in South Auckland and wider New Zealand is being encouraged to look into the Fire and Emergency Services as a valid career option.
“We would encourage the members of the Indian community to look at the Fire and Emergency services as a career option because it’s a wonderful environment,” Chris Delphos, Assistant Area Commander, Papatoetoe Fire Station told The Indian Weekender.
Commander Delphos was speaking with The Indian Weekender team, visiting Papatoetoe Fire station to meet with one of the only two Indian firefighters in Fire and Emergency Services.
“We are an extended family and we are looking for people who can work in a team environment and are happy to help the community.
“Mukesh is a valued member of the organisation, and a valued member of the Indian community in Counties Manukau,” Commander Delphos said.
IWK: The Indian Weekender would like to thank you for having us here and giving the opportunity to meet Mukesh and know more about the Papatoetoe fire station.
Chris Delphos: It has been a pleasure to have you here. Mukesh is a valued member of organisation a valued member of the community of the Counties Manukau.
IWK: We were kind of surprised by the fact Mukesh was one of the only two Indian firefighters.
Chris Delphos: Yes we have a large number of Indians in this area.
We would encourage the members of the Indian community to look at the Fire and Emergency services as a career option because it’s a wonderful environment.
We are an extended family and we are looking for people who can work in a team environment and are happy to help the community.
IWK: Plus your organisation offers everyone an opportunity to be a leader and a hero every day.
Chris Delphos: [Laughs] Well, I do not know much about being a hero but yes we certainly like to help the community and we do that on a daily basis, definitely.
