Three cities to host grand Jashn-e-Milad un Nabi events in December

Milad-un-nabi is one of the most important dates in the Islamic calendar and is very dear to the community. It is the day when Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born. To celebrate this occasion Muslims across the globe host special prayers services and do other activities in memory and respect of the prophet.

Maunatul Islam Trust of New Zealand in conjunction with New Zealand Muslim League in Hamilton, Wellington Islamic Association and West Auckland Milad Association and supported by the South Auckland Muslim Association in Otahuhu is hosting a grand celebratory event in three different cities this year.

The actual Milad-un-Nabi falls on Friday, December 1 until the evening Saturday, December 2 this year.

This year, three major celebrations are organised in Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton. The events in the three cities will feature speeches by renowned speakers of the community, Naa’th recitations, recitation Darood-as-salaam which is an integral part of the event.

This year Shaykh As Sayyid Afeefuddn Al-Jailani Al-Bagdadi, the 19th direct descendant of Shaykh Abdul Qadir Al Jailani Radhiallahu'anhu and the 33rd direct descendant of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) will be the chief guest at all the four events.

There will be two functions in Wellington, one on Saturday, December 2 from 5 p.m. at Cook Island Community Hall, Porirua and on Friday, December 8 at Wellington Islamic Centre, Oxford Street, Tawa. Chief guest Shaykh As Sayyid Sb will be present on Friday, December 8 event.

Masjid Al-Mustafa in Otahuhu will host the celebration on Saturday, December 2 at 5 p.m. organized by South Auckland Muslim Association (SAMA) and on Saturday, December 9 a Naa’th programme will be held at the Samoan Hall in Mangere starting form 5 p.m.

Sunday, December 10 will witness the Naa’th celebrations at the Hamilton West Islamic Centre in Frankton commencing 11:30 a.m.

Separate arrangements will be made for the men and women at the venues and children's activities are also planned to keep them engaged in the event.

In certain parts of the world, big processions are organised by the community followed by public sermons in mosques or at community centres. The community is however encouraged to make the most of this occasion by offering special prayers, reciting the Holy Quran, do zikr and make dua for the whole community.
