Asia-New Zealand Foundation sends first Kiwi business-intern to India.

Asia-NZ Foundation - the leading non-profit, non-partisan organisation in New Zealand focused on New Zealand-Asia relations – is sending the first business intern to India this summer.
Bobby McGlone, a Waikato University electronic engineering student, will be interning at leading international healthcare technology company Skanray in Mysore, India, for 12 weeks between November and February.
The Foundation runs the business internship programme to help New Zealanders build a better understanding of the people, places and cultures of Asian countries.
Along with Mr McGlone, another New Zealander, Pang Suwanaposee will travel to South Korea on the Foundation sponsored business internship.
"We congratulate Mr McGlone and Mr Suwanaposee for this fantastic opportunity to be immersed not only in the business environment but also in the culture of the countries where they will do their internships,” says Simon Draper, executive director of the Foundation.
“The programme aims to better-equip New Zealand businesses to thrive in Asia because the knowledge interns bring back after their internship gives them and the organisations they will work for a real advantage, particularly in their engagement with Asia and its people,” Simon Draper, executive director of the Foundation said.
Asked what made him interested in doing the internship, Mr McGlone said that he has always wanted to explore the world and has wanted to visit India ever since he worked with people who were originally from India.
“I became interested in their culture and I also started to learn to speak Hindi and Fijian Indian,” Mr McGlone said.
“The work that Skanray does with healthcare technology interests me a great deal, in-particular X-ray imaging systems.
"Working internationally will open up a lot more opportunities for me in the future and will give me the chance to network with professionals all over the world,” Mr McGlone further adds.
The Foundation’s business internship programme is open to New Zealand students who are interested in pursuing a career involving Asia and are willing to engage with the Foundation’s professional development programmes after they return.
Most interns go offshore in late November, although some go in the New Year and stay offshore for part of semester one or longer.
The length of the internships ranges from six weeks to six months, with most lasting for three months.
