Fiji All Set For COP23

The Fijian delegation in Bonn, Germany, has already started its series of preparatory meetings before the official opening of COP23 today.
Fiji’s climate champion Minister Inia Seruiratu said Fiji has much to learn from the developed countries and that from the Conference Fiji can adopt best practices which have already been a success in other countries.
“Different government departments from around the world will have their own display, and Fiji has a section for their display too,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“The display in these different zones have already begun and we will see the different countries showing us their ideas of mitigating climate change.
There is a day for agriculture, forests, ocean, human settlements etc.”
Despite American President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, he said it was heartening to see how other sectors from America have thrown their support behind COP23 and Fiji’s presidency.
“Let’s make use of their concepts and ideas so we can take it back home.
It is true we have the technology but this event will see how much we, the people understand about climate change, our ways of living, farming and housing.
Even though we are having the meeting and discussions here we must be able to practice it.”
