What can First Home Buyers expect from the new incoming government?

The first home buyers, who have been locked out of the housing market, especially in Auckland, have a lot to look forward to this new incoming government.
Housing is one area where this government intends to move very fast, although Prime Minister-designate has sought to rationalise the huge expectations set earlier by their Party’s election promise of building 100,000 affordable houses in the next 10 years.
Local MP from Te Atatu, Phil Twyford has been appointed as the Housing Minister, and he has already announced a commitment to start building Kiwibuild houses as soon as possible.
Earlier today, Twyford has revealed the first in-depth details of the incoming Government's new $2 billion KiwiBuild scheme, explaining how 100,000 new residences will be built in the next decade.
Mr Twyford says that the existing problem in the housing market will be addressed by
- changing immigration laws
- Forming public-private partnerships with business like Fletcher Residential and Mike Greer Homes.
- KiwiBuild aims to gradually ramp up to 10,000/year high-quality affordable new residences for first-home buyers,
- About 50,000 affordable houses would be built in Auckland in next 10 years
- Mr Twyford said it would take about three years for the programme to kick into full-strength, possibly 1000 residences in the first year and scaling up towards the later part of the 10 year program.
- Hobsonville Point is the model the Government will use to duplicate all around the country.
- The government wants to deliver medium-density townhouses and terraced housing for $500,000 and under.
- Stand-alone homes, mostly on the fringes such as Auckland's North West and the south, for $600,000.
- However, not the most houses build by the government would be stand-alone houses.
- New housing project to come up around New Lynn, Avondale and Panmure in Auckland.
- The government would need 3 years before being able to hit the target of building 10,000 a year houses.
