Roopa Suchdev elected as the new President of Urdu Hindi Association

Renowned community worker from Auckland, Roopa Suchdev, has been elected as the new President of Urdu Hindi Cultural Association of New Zealand (UHCANZ).
The annual general meeting of the UHCANZ was held on Sunday, September 10 in Avondale, Auckland.
The UHCANZ is the first formal organisation in New Zealand comprising people of India, Pakistan, Fiji, Bangladesh and other South Asian nations. UHCANZ is a group of individuals settled in New Zealand with strong ties to the ethnic values of these countries culture, heritage, and values and its members are drawn from different professional disciplines.
The UHCANZ is an apolitical, not-for-profit voluntary organisation registered as a society in July, 2011. The vision of this organisation is to contribute to the socio-economic and cultural enrichment of harmonious multicultural society of New Zealand.
The host of the evening Dr M M Baig Taimoori explained the history of the association and commended the Secretary General of the Association, Syed Mujeeb for his guidance in making the association.
Ms Roopa Suchdev was elected as the next president of the association unanimously. Nominees M A Haq and Dr Baig Taimoori were elected as vice-presidents for the next tenure, and Mujeeb Syed will continue his role as General Secretary.
Mrs Tehseen Sultana was elected to continue her role as the treasurer for the next year, Ghous Majeed as the event manager, Ms Preeta Vyas as Women’s Affairs and Mrs Suman Kapoor as media spokesperson.
Community member Surendra Shajar shared his views on the existence and performance of the association. He emphasised on the spoken power of the languages and families to speak their mother tongue at home.
