Rahul Gandhi visits Wellington

Indian Member of Parliament and grandson and son of former Indian Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi is in Wellington on a two day visit.

The New Zealand Indian Central Association (NZICA) President Ratilal Champaneri and General Secretary Veer Khar met up with Mr Gandhi yesterday in the capital and presented him with a copy of “Early Settlers” at a function at Government House.

Early Settlers is a book about Indian Settlers in New Zealand authored by research scholar Jacqueline Leckie who wrote the book for NZICA. The book was published by Otago University Press in 2007.

NZICA appraised Mr Gandhi about the Indian diaspora in New Zealand and praised him for his engagement with rural India.

Mr Gandhi will attend another official engagement at the Beehive today.
