24-hour non-stop Hanuman Chalisa paath in Ram Mandir

Shri Ram Mandir, Henderson has organised a 24-hour non-stop Hanuman Chalisa paath on January 21 and 22. More than 2,500 people are expected to attend the session during the weekend.
Thirty-one families and mandalis (community groups) have registered for the mega event that will start on Saturday at 10 a.m. and continue overnight until 10 a.m. on Sunday. Each group has been allocated 45-minute slots, and they will perform at different scheduled intervals during the event.
The community members of West Auckland started the Akhand Hanuman Chalisa Paath in 2011 at community grounds before the construction of the temple. Shri Ram Mandir opened in June 2015 and is the biggest and the only Ram Mandir in New Zealand.
In the past, the mandir has organised ‘Shri Ram-a-thon’, a community walk to raise funds for Starship Foundation, invited the Ramlila group from Ayodhya, India to perform in Diwali, has hosted community cricket and football matches and celebrated Matariki (Maori New Year) at the temple hall in association with Community Waitakere.
“The response we have received from the community is incredible. We have registered five more groups compared to last year,” Umesh Chand from the Shri Ram Mandir said.
Datta Yoga group from India, Henderson Sai Centre, Ram Krishna Mandir, Waitakere Hindi Language & Cultural School, Sargam School of Music, Saraswati Sursangam Music School, Pooja Cultural Centre, Pushpanjali Group from Zimbabwe, Brahmin Maha Sabha New Zealand, and various other Ramayan mandalis from around Auckland are part of the 31 groups to perform at the event.
The Datta Yoga group from South India performing at Ram Mandir is on a mission to count one million Hanuman Chalisa recitations from all around the world at different events.
The temple is making all the preparations for the massive crowd that is expected to attend over the weekend.
“We are decorating the mandir with flowers and lights and making food and other arrangements, so everything runs smoothly,” Mr Chand added.
The purpose of the 24-hour non-stop recital is to get the community under one roof for a day to devote their time to Shri Hanuman, an ardent devotee of Shri Ram.
“The 24-hour continuous recital of Hanuman Chalisa will create positive vibrations and bring an aura of happiness to the devotees,” Mr Chand added.
The programme will start with a Roth Katha on Saturday and end with Sankat Mochan, Bajrang Baan, and Hanuman Astak, and there will also be a hawan yagna and aarti to end the programme on Sunday.
