Prime Minister John Key, in a shocking announcement soon after his cabinet meeting this morning, has resigned from the position of Prime Minister of the country and the leader of National Party.
Bill English will be the acting Prime Minister until the party caucus meets to elect their new leader and the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister John Key says that “he took pride in leaving on his terms”.
In an emotional speech delivered this afternoon at around 1.00 p.m., the Prime Minister revisited the success of his leadership of the Party and the country in the last ten years.
It is clear that the Party caucus was surprised and went through some “hard conversation” with the Prime Minister came out in public with the announcement.
He said that it had been nearly a decade since his wife has been spending nights alone at home and it is the time that he returned home.
