MyIR App makes Tax Paying Easier

The Inland Revenue department held a crowd –sourcing challenge to develop an app for mobiles that will enable interaction of small business enterprises easier with the Inland Revenue.

Two Wellington friends Matt Innes and Josh Lee together won the APP4IR competition and made the myIR app that has already been downloaded by 7,270 people here. The young minds are thrilled by their win in this cut throat competition and are happy to see their work being utilised by thousands as of now.

Revenue Minister Todd McClay mentioned that the new app is simplifying filing GST for small businesses and the response from the people so far is positive.

The app has been developed by two Wellington geniuses in collaboration with Sush Mobile. The app is getting more popularity because it has been developed by customers from customers.

“What we have ended up with is an app that is developed by customers for customers,” says Mr McClay.

This first version of the app can be used by more than 50,000 small businesses around New Zealand and with further feedback in the future amendments will be made and the updated version will be out in the app market.

The app myIR mobile and online allows people to file their GST 101 (including a nil GST return), pay their taxed due by debit or credit cards and are also notified of due dates to file GST.

The feedback received via emails so far are positive, and the people have lauded the work of the app developers. The feedback on twitter has also been overwhelming for the department as the users have posted positive comments and shared the word about the app.

“We asked customers to help us make myIR mobile great. We’ve since received over 185 emails providing feedback and suggesting further functionality,” says Mr McClay. He further added that this will make process and understanding paying tax simpler which in turn will encourage the users to file their dues in time without any hassle or confusion. The customers can interact with the government anytime of the day, 7 days a week.

The app was New Zealand’s number one business app prior to the GST filing date for January, February and March.
