Auckland charity to roll out new migrant services

Auckland Regional Migrant Services Charitable Trust (ARMS) is rolling out a number of workshops for newcomers in Auckland CBD in a bid to meet the needs of the growing number of new migrants who live and work in the centre.

As part of plans to deliver a programme of information workshops for newcomers in the CBD, the settlement support agency has teamed up with Zefe Coaching to deliver an Embracing Change workshop in April, designed to help newcomers cope with change.

It is also collaborating with Auckland Council to hold its popular and interactive Treaty of Waitangi workshop at Whare Wananga in Auckland Central City Library – Tamaki Pataka Korero on Saturday 28th March.

The four-part ‘Embracing Change’ workshop is a new addition to the ARMS programme. It aims to help frustrated new migrants who are feeling lost, powerless and frustrated in their new surroundings, cope with change.

The workshop runs on Monday 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th April from 11am to 12.30pm at the Pioneer Women’s and Ellen Melville Hall.

ARMS has also teamed up with Auckland Central City Library to deliver a special a Treaty of Waitangi workshop in Whare Wananga in the Library. This will be the first time the workshop, which also includes a special tour of the library, has been held in the city centre.

ARMS regional communications manager Chinwe Akomah, who is the main liaison for ARMS CBD workshops, says: “We are delighted to be working with Auckland Council, the Pioneer Women’s Hall and Zefe Coaching on the delivery of these two projects.

“There is a real drive in our sector to support new migrants in settling in Auckland. These partnerships prove this.

“We recognise that there is a growing number of new Aucklanders in the centre who would benefit greatly from our newcomer workshops, which have been extremely popular.

“We plans to roll out several more workshops in Auckland Central over the coming months so watch this space.”
