Mayor Len Brown to attend World Cities Summit, Singapore, June 1-4 2014
Mayor Len Brown is travelling next week to the World Cities Summit in Singapore to promote Auckland’s growth agenda and discuss development issues with other Mayors.
The four-day summit is the pre-eminent global platform for city leaders and industry experts to share common challenges and solutions for creating liveable and sustainable cities.
“This is an opportunity to showcase Auckland on a global stage and learn from the experiences of other leading cities,” says Len Brown. “We will be sharing Auckland’s story with 250 world cities and 120 Mayors, and learning from their experiences.”
Len Brown will meet with other Mayors, international experts and advisors on urban transportation, technologies, infrastructure and green innovation as well as potential investors and Singapore business entities. He will also be meeting with Rt Hon Helen Clark, who in her capacity as Administrator for the United Nations Development Programme is a keynote speaker at the Summit.
Accompanying the Mayor will be Dr Roger Blakeley (Chief Planning Officer), Ludo Campbell-Reid (Manager Environmental Strategy and Policy), Sir Bob Harvey (Chair Waterfront Auckland) and Harvey Brookes (Manager, Economic Development). The group’s schedule includes a mixture of plenary sessions, networking events, plus strategic site visits and one-to-one meetings with key participants in their field of expertise.
Auckland Council attendance at this year’s Worlds Cities Summit also provides an opportunity to launch Auckland’s campaign towards a bid for the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew World City prize in 2016 – a biennial award to honour outstanding achievements and contributions to the creation of liveable, vibrant and sustainable urban communities around the world.
