Singing into people’s hearts

Auckland gospel singer Jessica Singh is on a mission to get people closer to God. And she’s banking on her melodious voice and creativity to touch the hearts of those seeking divine intervention in their lives.
Jessica is promoting her latest CD album- Chaahat (longing in English). Made up of nine songs, the CD has been basically a one man-job in Jessica’s case- she composed the songs, lent her voice to all the numbers and produced the CD. Music is directed by TE Paul.
While showcasing God’s love the songs, more importantly, drive home the need for people to have the longing for God.
Jessica, a Christian for 29 years, points out that Chaahat is not only for Christians.
“Chaahat is not about Christians or non-Christians. It has no denominational, religious or national barriers and that is because Jesus did not die for Christians. Jesus shed his blood on the cross for all mankind,” she says.
So what make Chaahat different from other gospel songs?
There are many songs out there that showcase God’s love for us, Jessica acknowledges.
“While Chaahat does this very well, it also showcases our deep need for God. “Chaahat mein rahun main sada, teri pooja karun sarwada, teri aradhna ke sahere, prathna mein rahun main sada….” shows the reality of how frail we are without God’s renewed strength. Chaahat is about our need to be in longing for God,” she says.
God does act in mysterious ways. Jessica had no plans to launch the CD in Fiji.
But Life Bread International, run by Pastor Dr Raymond and Nadira Moti provided her an opportunity to minister to the people of Fiji at the Arise Fiji prayer festival in Lautoka.
“Thousands of people came to seek and celebrate God’s goodness through the festival of Prayer and Praise (ARISE FIJI) held in Churchill Park. God provided me that opportunity to release the CD,” she says.
The CD was very well received in Lautoka, and one song rendered in both Hindi and Fijian languages was a major hit.
Chaahat is Jessica’s second album. Her first Rishtaa (relationship with God) was released a few years ago.
Releasing an album is no mean feat.
For Jessica a lot of hard work has gone into both albums. She recalled producing Chaahat was at times very tiring.
She remembers finishing recording one number- “Choole Mujhko” at 3am.
“Producing my own album project meant I had to do most things. Producing a music project involves a lot of creativity, planning, focus, time and money. No details can be left to chance.”
Jessica is keen to continue using music to get her message across.
“My calling is to lead people in worship. God’s desire for my life is to enable people through music to draw closer to Him, to see Jesus for who He really is and to connect with Him in a deep and meaningful way.
“Because this is God’s desire for my life, He has enabled me to write, compose, sing and produce music that speaks joy and encouragement into listeners and restores faith in those who may be broken. “
