Films are playing increasingly important role in establishing and maintaining cultural connectedness for many Asian and Polynesian communities who have chosen to make New Zealand their home. The stories and visuals build bridges for people from different ethnic groups and communities to share their history, lifestyle, thinking and feeling, also to exchange their cultures.

It is the first time that we have Asia Pacific Film Festival in Auckland. It has improved culture understanding, and made Auckland a more colorful society.

Apart from showcase of 12 well selected films, the Festival is also the first event that has engaged different Asian communities in three feature nights during a week-long event, being China Night ( 4 Nov), Korea Night (5 Nov) and India Night (6 Nov).

It is very pleased to see the audience not only enjoy the films, but also have a great time attending the event. They wore their own ethnic costumes, mixing and mingle with people from various communities at the cocktails function. The performances of Japanese Tamashi drummer, Chinese folk music, Korean and Indian folk dance presented before some of the showcases have added special colors to this Festival.

The good things are not just that! Telecom, the naming right sponsor of this Film Festival, together with Samsung, supplied 15 Note 3+Gear pack for the lucky draw. There was at least 2 lucky draws every day during this Festival.

Many other merchants and media such as Lee Kum Kee also provided their support for the Festival.

All Asian communities have banded together through this event. The Indian MP, Chinese consul general, Japanese consul general, president of Korean society, director of Japanese society, local board member of Auckland Council, and other community leaders have attended this Festival.

This Asia Pacific Film Festival has also gained great exposure in Auckland, through street posters, advertising on bus back, Hauraki and Coast Radio, Radio Tarana, NZ Herald, plus every Chinese media, Korean media and Indian media.
