A musical feast for music lovers in NZ

Sikkil C Gurucharan is among the foremost young performing musicians of carnatic classical music in India today. Known for his mellifluous voice, perfect sruthi and complete classicism, Gurucharan has risen to prominence as one of the most sought after carnatic musician. He is the grandson of Sikkil Kunjumani, elder of the internationally acclaimed flautists the Sikkil Sistes. Gurucharan has been under the tutelage of Vaigal Shri S. Gnanaskandan, a senior student of the Late Sri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. He is currently being mentored by Shri B. Krishnamurthy. He is an 'A' grade All India Radio artist. The magazine India Today featured him among 35 Game Changers Under (the age of) 35 in India, a list of young achievers from different walks of life. This is his second visit to NZ. On his previous tour in 2009, he performed two back to back concerts in Auckland and won the hearts of music lovers.
On this tour, Gurucharan is accompanied by V Sanjeev on the violin and Mannarkoil J Balaji on the mridangam, both extremely accomplished and top artistes from India. The concerts have been organsied by Rasikas NZ, Sangeetha Bharathi and NZIFS Wellington.
The team will perform in Auckland on 17 August and in Wellington on 18 August.
