Bakshi first for Hall of Fame

Glorious moments of history were etched into the psyche of the community this week as the Kiwi Indian Hall of Fame was inaugurated in Auckland.
And Papatoetoe MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi became the first inductee into the institution at a gala function attended by the Prime Minister, John Key, and more than 200 guests at the Pullman Hotel in central Auckland.
The Hall of Fame, the brainchild of Indian Weekender co-publisher Giri Gupta, was initiated to celebrate and honour the achievements of New Zealand Indians who have contributed generously to the development of this country.
Mr Key lauded the initiative, hoping many more names would be added to the list started by Mr Bakshi.
The spectacular evening, MC’d by Sonam Arora, rolled out smooth as silk as formality, entertainment and fine dining culminated with the naming of the first inductee.
“It’s a dream come true,” Mr Gupta said. “I hope tonight’s event will set a legacy that will be honoured for generations to come.”
