Natasha dances her way to the top

Lights, camera and action were all on at Dorothy Winstone Centre on August 25. It was the Grand Finale night for the reality dance TV show titled Humse Badkar Kaun by Roopa aur Aap.
Humse Badkar Kaun was a reality TV show that was screening every Thursday at 8pm on Triangle TV presented by Roopa Aur Aap.
Natasha Bali was the winner of the competition. Pooja was first runner-up. The group Chikni Chamelis from Macleans College were 2nd runners-up.
“On the finale night we were judged on every little detail including facial expression, movement, choreography style, costume, song choice, use of stage space, how one dance movement linked to the next,” Natasha told the Indian Weekender.
There were three judges on the judging panel each trained in different dance forms.
Each contestant had to choreograph two dances to perform on the Grand Finale night. However, after round 1 there was an elimination process and only five finalists would be selected to perform their dance in round 2 before the winner would be chosen. So it was quite challenging and the pressure was on.
There were a number of contestants who had auditioned for this show but only selected dancers made it through. There were 6 dance rounds broadcasted on TV and dancers were required to perform outside their area of expertise.
“Each round did become harder than the other and we were being judged on each round as well. Judging became more and more strict,” Natasha said.
“I had to perform a Latin American Dance which was quite challenging as well as a Hula Dance and Rajasthani Dance. I had never performed these dance styles before. After round 6 the Grand Finale was held live on stage the following week.
“I actually did not expect to win the competition. In fact when they announced me as the winner I was quite shocked and didn’t move until they said my name again. It was a wonderful feeling. As a New Zealand born Indian I am so humbled to have won the title of Humse Badkar Kaun,” she said.
“I am still getting so much appreciation and wishes from everyone for my win. It was a memorable journey indeed and a great experience and I am so glad to have met some amazing people on the way of this competition, all the contestants are special and have become an important part of my life.
“My family has supported me all the way through the show and I definitely would not have come this far if it wasn’t for them. They were there for me at each TV shooting up until the final night. My mum and nani sewed my costumes.”
Natasha said she would like to set up a dance school in the near future.
