Inching closer to big screen dream

Inching closer to big screen dream

Budding Auckland filmmaker Sreeman Myadam is set to embark on his second venture in New Zealand – bringing him closer to his dream of making a feature film here in the not too distant future.

Sreeman, who has been in New Zealand for the past five and has worked with some big names in India’s movie industry, made his first short film (“PR”) more than two years ago.

Originally from Hyderabad, India, Sreeman worked as assistant to director Nagesh Kuknoor of Hyderabad Blues and with Posani Krishna Murali as assistant director.

Now, under the Myadam Cinemas (NZ) banner, Sreeman’s second short film is scheduled to be shot in Auckland on September 20.

Director Santosh Tukkapuram, Auckland filmmaker, is also originally from Hyderabad, India. Santosh is directing his first international short film “The Dark Humour”. Santosh directed more than 30 commercials, corporate films and documentaries in India. Santosh did his film study from Zee Institute, Hyderabad.

“The Dark Humour” is being produced by Sreeman Myadam and directed by Santosh Tukkapuram. Kashika Batra is assistant director.

The 20-minute film is about a jovial and free-spirited girl who goes overboard with her pranks, and the results are not pleasant.

As director Santosh Tukkapuram explains: “Humour is good if it is in the limits, but when humour crosses the limits, it shows its dark side.”

Myadam Cinemas has already secured the main cast for the movie, and is on the lookout for the second lead heroine and extras.

Male lead is played by Aucklander Aditya and female lead is Isabella Debbage.

Sreeman and Santosh are best buddies back from India. They are enthused by the fact that New Zealand is home to one of Hollywood’s best directors, Sir Peter

Jackson, and that several top movies have been made here by locals, with a local cast.

He is also inspired by the fact that several Bollywood movies have been shot here, the latest being “Players” starring mega-stars Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

“We’ll get there,” a determined Sreeman told the Indian Weekender this week.
After few days’ shooting this month, “The Dark Humour” will be ready for release mid-October.
