John Key, clapper boy

Mumbai: Prime Minister John Key played the quintessential clapper boy, clapping the start of a shot at Mumbai's Film City.

The shot featured Bollywood A-Listers soon-father-to-be Abhishek Bachchan and the gorgeous Bipasha Basu in the Abbas Mastaan directed big budget movie The Players.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the shot after a bit of tutoring from the directors as more than a hundred media persons from both India and New Zealand watched.

The movie has been shot on location in Wellington and Auckland a few months ago. Mr Key, who spoke briefly, told the audience about the film co-operation he signed with the Indian government yesterday in New Delhi.

The agreement aims at leveraging the strengths of the New Zealand and Indian film industries for the two countries' mutual benefit. He invited more producers to consider coming to New Zealand not only to shoot films bust also avail of its post production talent and technologies.

Directors Abbas Mustaan presented a memento to Mr Key and Mr Key reciprocated with a gift on behalf of the people of New Zealand. Mrs Bronagh Key was also present on the occasion along with MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, High Commissioners of New Zealand and India respectively, Jan Henderson and Admiral Sureesh Mehta, besides others concerned with the production of the film.

After the ceremony, Indian Weekender had a word with Abhishek and Bipasha and Abhishek recalled the interview he had with the paper, though it was about another film. Both Abhishek and Bipasha said they looked forward to working on location in New Zealand.

Indian Weekender passed on its readers' best wishes to Abhishek on his impending fatherhood.
