Free meals to help the community

The severe weather in Auckland since last weekend, which led to flooding, has impacted numerous people. The wild weather has caused damage to properties and vehicles and flash floods in many areas in Auckland.

In this time of crisis, Kiwi-Indian restauranteurs Ganesh Chowdary Pulapa and Prasad Kothapally, who own many restaurants in Auckland, have decided to offer free food to those impacted by the floods. The free food will be provided between 5 pm and 9 pm today (Wednesday, February 1) and tomorrow (Thursday, February 2) at three of their restaurants, namely Plan B Lounge (115 Parnell Road, Parnell), Baahubali Restaurant (1087 New North Road, Mt Albert) and Hyderabad Food Garage (71 Wakefield Street, Auckland CBD).

Confirming the same to Indian Weekender, Prasad said, "We know that many people have been impacted severely by the floods and don't even have food to eat. We thought at this time, as part of the Indian community, we should do our bit to help our people. Anyone affected by the flooding can pick up a free meal which will include either butter chicken or vegetarian curry, rice, masala fries and a soft drink today and tomorrow. There won’t be any questions asked and no charges at all.”

Pulapa informed us that they expect to help around 400-500 people at each restaurant daily. "Our chefs and team are relentlessly working to prepare food to serve as many people as possible. We expect that we will be able to help around 200-3000 people in these two days. At this time, we all need to help and support each other at any level that we can."
