Mt Roskill Business group launched

Members of the Mt Roskill area’s multi-ethnic community have come together to launch the Mt Roskill Business & Community Groups Association Inc. as an Incorporated Society on December 9 last year.

The group had its first meeting in early February and was attended by a wide cross section of community members ranging from social workers, politicians to businesspeople of several ethnic groups.

The group’s president is Richard Prakash (phone 09-620 7940) and secretary is Dr Lingappa Kalburgi (09-815 3448).

Mr Prakash welcomed the members of the Mt Roskill Business, Community, Local Board and others in the capacity of acting President of this newly formed association.

Dr Kalburgi in the capacity of acting Secretary of this newly formed association gave a brief reason for forming this group. As per the research, Mt Roskill Business Association Inc was in action from 1st Dec. 1948 to 4th Oct.2000. All other suburbs of Auckland city have formed business associations and none for Mt Roskill until Dec.2010.

Some of them are inactive because of lack of time from the members of the business community. Mt Albert Business and Community Groups Association Inc. is one of the active associations because of cross sections of the members from the Business and from the community.

These facts convinced the founder members and so Lingappa prepared the draft “Rules & Constitution of the Mt Roskill Business and Community Groups Association Inc.”, which was checked and approved by the two law firms i.e. Parshotam & Co. and Simpson Dowsett Mackie Lawyers. Members thanked both law firms for their time and efforts.

Dr Kalburgi also mentioned that currently couple of projects are being handled by the University of Auckland to work with business people and community groups. Therefore MRBCGAI name was chosen and registered on 9th Dec.2010.
