State Highway 1's southbound lanes between Hill Rd and Takanini in Auckland remain closed this morning after a vehicle crashed through the overbridge last night, falling onto the motorway below.
The vehicle was travelling along Hill Rd, Manurewa, about 3.37am when it lost control, crashing through the barriers and dropped onto the motorway below, police said in a statement.
The sole occupant became trapped and had to be cut free by emergency services.
The injured person's condition was described as life threatening.
The motorway remains closed southbound as police investigate.
Waka Kotahi urges drivers to avoid the area or delay travelling along the route.
