Private viewing for paying last respects to Kiwi-Indian nurse organised in Auckland and Hamilton before being sent back home

The repatriation process is underway to send the Kiwi-Indian nurse back home in the Indian state of Kerala after she passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 30 in Hamilton.

The Indian Weekender had earlier reported that 31-year-old nurse Divya (Mohan) Simone who had been in the country for hardly a year had suddenly passed away on Sunday, possible due a cardiac arrest.

She is survived by husband Mohan Jose and two kids (3-year-old and 2-year-old).

Soby Thomas, President, Auckland Malayali Samajam told the Indian Weekender that the family is aiming to send her back as earliest possible and are considering the flight options available on Monday or Tuesday next week.

“Hamilton Kerala Samajam- President Rajesh Raveendran and their team are the people who are providing all necessary support to the next of the kin and organising all logistical planning and paperwork required to send her back at the earliest.

Sindhu Punnoose, the Secretary of Auckland Malayali Samjam added that the support from Malayali Community members in NZ and AU was overwhelming, and various community members supported the family and friends to coordinate the arrangements since Sunday

A private viewing and prayers are being arranged at South Auckland Funeral Services, Auckland on Thursday, February 3 (morning), and at St Pius X Catholic Church, Pine Ave, Melville Hamilton, on the same day afternoon.

Sindhu also told the Indian Weekender that an online viewing arrangement are also being arranged and will update the link soon as available.

Emotional outpouring of support from wider communities continues unabated

Meanwhile, emotional outpouring of support continues unabated not from Malayali community in New Zealand and Australia, but the wider Kiwi-Indian community.

The give-a-little page collection surpassed the targeted amount of 100,000 NZD in 19 hours, and 1665 generous donors contributed to Divya’s family support.

The money is intended to be spent for bearing repatriation cost and helping the distraught immediate family cope with this tragic situation.

Hamilton Malayali Samajam will be arranging the funds for the bereaved family soon.
