NZ movie makes its mark in India

New Zealand’s highest grossing film ever, “Boy”, has earned accolades in India.

Directed by Taika Waititi, “Boy” has shared the special jury award at the 41st International Film Festival of India in Goa with Kaushik Ganguly's “Just Another Love Story”.

Noted Bengali filmmaker Goutam Ghose's “Moner Manush” won the Golden Peacock for the best film, The Hindustan reported.

Earlier this month “Boy” has received an Audience Award in the world cinema section of the audience and jury awards at the American Film Institute Awards.

The movie is set on the rural East Coast of New Zealand. It’s 1984 and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is changing kids’ lives. Inspired by Waititi's Oscar-nominated Two Cars, One Night, “Boy” is the hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age tale about heroes, magic and Michael Jackson.

In New Zealand, the film has eclipsed previous records for a first week's box office takings for a local production.
