Wellington Diwali Festival 2021 set to return on Labour Weekend

Wellington Diwali Festival of Lights 2021 is all set to return to TSB and Shed 6 on Monday, October 25, from 1.30 pm to 9 pm, a communique from the producers of the event confirmed.
Notably, this popular festival in the capital city is brought to you by Wellington City Council and produced by Communities Action Trust New Zealand (CATNZ).
Murali Kumar, the founding Trustee, Operations & Events Manager for the CATNZ told the Indian Weekender that it was a privilege to produce the much-loved festival for the people of Wellington that celebrates Indian culture, inclusivity and the multiculturalism of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Speaking to the Indian Weekender, Murali said, "With stage performances, craft, retail stalls, exhibition, presentations, workshops and diverse authentic Indian cuisine, the Diwali festival returns with a bang to Wellington's waterfront TSB and Shed 6, Queens Wharf."
Murali also recalled fond memories of how the Wellington Diwali Festival was lucky enough to go ahead in 2020 and bring smiles and joy on the faces of people, otherwise jaded by Covid-19 related lockdowns and changing Alert Levels that resulted in the cancellation of many large-scale events across the country.
The festival is well-known amongst Wellington's multicultural communities for bringing together a number of cultural performances reflecting the rich cultural history of India on a grand stage.
Unlike Auckland's Diwali festival, Wellington Diwali is held indoors with seating spaces for the spectators both in front of the stage and on the side first-floor balconies that give a spectacular view of the stage performances amid vivid lighting and festive backdrop.
Call out for making the festival bigger, better and grand
Meanwhile, inviting participation from one and all to make the next iteration of the Wellington Diwali Festival, said, "We need your help and participation to bring the sights, sounds and spicy tastes of India to Wellington for the whole city to enjoy!"
"Please read the general information sheet for more details on costs, final date to send the application forms and any other terms and conditions," Murali said.
The Indian Weekender has been associated with the Wellington Diwali as an official media partner since 2018 and presents its Mr & Ms Wellington Diwali show to the Wellington audience.
In 2020, the festival was held in slightly compact form with a late start and an early finish and without the much-anticipated fireworks across the wharf owing to uncertainties related to Covid lockdowns and changing alert levels.
This year the festival will return to its normal full-day version and see the return of the popular firework show.
