The Waitakere Indian Association is extending a warm welcome to the public, including all ethnic groups and community organisations to participate in our grand celebration of this years Festival of Lights also known as Diwali Mela this Sunday, October 24.
The main purpose of this event includes:
• Integration of all diversity in Waitakere
• Showcasing Indian Culture and rejoicing the spiritual significance of Diwali
• Work together with WCC, funding agencies, NGO’s, Waitakere Library and schools to bring awareness of this great festival
• Sharing a fun filled festive family day for all to enjoy
• Raising WIA’s profile in the community
The event is being organised in collaboration with Waitakere City Council, Waitakere Ethnic Board,Waitakere Libraries, NGO’s, Sponsors and various ethnic groups for all people of Auckland.
The details of the programme are as follows:
Date - Sunday 24th October 2010
Time - 11am-10.30pm
Venue - The Trusts Stadium, Waitakere City
We are planning to provide a colourful programme that will showcase Indian culture in Waitakere City in the form of:
• Products
• Food
• Yoga Demonstration
• Songs and dances
• Schools Dance Competition
• Drama based on Ramayana ( Hindu Scripture )
• Arts (Rangoli competition by Waitakere Library)
• Rangoli Display
We are now calling for registrations from anyone who wishes to participate in our 2010 Diwali Mela. To apply please, please access the registration form from our website www.wia.net.nz
