Indian High Commission appoints new Hon Consul to Samoa

The High Commission of India, Wellington has appointed a new Hon Consul of India to the independent state of Samoa.

A press release from the office of the Indian High Commission on Thursday July 1 announced that Leonidas Apete Meredith has been appointed as the Honorary Consul General of India

Mr. Meredith has a long and extensive experience in the fields of business, banking, aviation, accountancy, real estate and hospitality. In this professional life, he has served as Samoa’s trade Commissioner in Auckland (2001and-2009) and President of Samoa Chamber of Commerce & Industry ( 2000-2001). Presently, he is the Chairman of National Bank of Samoa and Samoa Airport Authority, A director of Taubmans Samoa Paints(subsidiary of Asian paints Ltd). Managing Director of LM properties Ltd and P.Meredith &Co Ltd and Aga Reef & Spa Ltd.

Diplomatic relations between India and the Independent State of Samoa were established in 1970 and both the countries enjoy warm and friendly relations.

“The opening of Honorary Consulate General of India in the Independent State of Samoa will go a long way in further strengthening of the relationship between the two countries and will help in looking after the welfare of the Indian community in Samoa,” the official communique said.
