Direct charter flight set to ease some nerves of anxious travellers amidst second wave of Covid pandemic in India.

As the revival of unfettered international travel still remains a distant dream, a travel operator taking a charter plane to India is hopeful that the option of direct flight will ease the nerves of many anxious travellers amidst the rise of the second wave of Covid pandemic in India.
Sehion Tour and Travels is operating its eighth repatriation direct charter flight to India on April 21 from Auckland to Kochi after first receiving a provisional NOC (No-Objection Certificate) from the Indian High Commission to run two such flights back in August 2020.
The Indian High Commission continues to assess and give provisional NOCs to travel operators on a case-by-case basis.
Travelling to and from deep down South India has been a challenge throughout last year with the closure of travel routes previously available to travellers in the pre-Covid world, including the repatriation flights operated by the New Zealand government to bring back stranded Kiwis from that part of the world.
Amidst this chaos and uncertainty, Sehion Tour & Travels had managed to run quite a few repatriation flights to South India, taking travellers who have stranded in New Zealand after the sudden border closures and imposition of global travel restrictions.
Sijo Abraham of Sehion Tour & Travels told the Indian Weekender that till now, they had repatriated more than 1600 travellers to different parts of India, including to destinations like Kochi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
“We believe in offering a reliable service to our passengers during these uncertain times and ensure we provide further connecting flights to other parts of India after the initial port of arrival,” Sijo said.
Every time there is a surge in the number of Covid cases anywhere in the world, the travel industry takes a maximum hit as governments and authorities scramble to break the chain of the spread of the virus.
Currently, there is a resurgence of the second wave of Covid in some parts of India, raising concerns among some quarters if it would result in further tightening of domestic travel in India.
Presently travellers from New Zealand and Australia wanting to travel to India are only relying on Emirates Airlines with transit via the port of Dubai.
“Under these circumstances, a direct end to end flight from the port of departure to port of arrival is better suited for travellers, especially for elderlies and senior citizens,” Sijo said.
It is important to note that a large number of travellers initially stranded in New Zealand wanting to travel back to India included parents of Kiwi-citizens and residents who were temporarily visiting their children before the global travel restrictions came into place.
