Man found in burning car in Flat Bush identified as a 26-year-old Indian national

The man found dead in a burning car in Flat Bush has been identified as an Indian national. Police officially revealed the name of the deceased this morning as Kunal Khera of Manukau, Auckland.

On Saturday, March 6, Police pulled a body out of a burnt-out car in the car park of Barry Curtis Park in Flat Bush, East Auckland.

Police then confirmed a body was found inside the silver Mazda, and a scene examination was conducted.

The site of incident was blessed and released back to the public on Sunday, police confirmed.

The post-mortem of the body was conducted on Monday, March 8, but the Police are still treating the death as unexplained and is continuing to make enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Mr Khera's death.

"Police have been in contact with Mr Khera's family in India and are supporting them as best we can.

"Our deepest thoughts and sympathies are with them at this difficult time," Detective Senior Sergeant Natalie Nelson from Counties Manukau Police said.

Locals of the area who pass through the park for exercise, jogging and leisure said they were shocked to know about the tragic incident in their neighbourhood.
