Indian business owners celebrate Diwali in Taupo

The Indian community members living in Taupo organised Diwali celebrations for community members in the region.

The celebratory event was attended by over 200 people, from the Indian and non-Indian communities who came in ethnic dressed to witness the festivities of the biggest festivals of India.

Amongst many visitors to the event were National elected MP Louise Upton and Mayor of Taupo District Council David Trewavas and Chief Executive Gareth Green.

Several cultural performances were presented as a part of the Diwali celebrations such as classical Indian dance Bharatanatyam, Rajasthani folk dance, performances on Bollywood songs and ethnic fashion walk for children present at the event.

“The ethnic fashion walk was the highlight of our event as it had participants as young as one year old,” an organiser of the event told The Indian Weekender.

The event was supported and sponsored by small businesses in the Taupo region making one of the first major Diwali events to be held in the Taupo region.
