Three new cases reported, ONE fresh case in the community with source yet to be determined

Minister of COVID Response Chris Hipkins and Director-General of Health Dr Ashley announced three new cases today with one raising concerns for the health authorities as the case was reported in the community with no source determined yet.

Chris Hipkins and Dr Bloomfield called for an impromptu Covid press conference earlier this afternoon announcing the latest community case and information related to it.

The first person reported today arrived from overseas and is in managed isolation facility. The second person is related to the November first week community cluster who reported to have got symptoms on November 11 and tested positive. He has been moved into Grand Mercure Quarantine facility in Wellington.

The latest community case reported to have got cold and flu-like symptoms on November 9 and was tested on November 10, and reports confirmed positive earlier this morning.

The person lived alone at the Vincent Residency on Vincent Street in Auckland Central and worked at A to Z Collections on High Street in Auckland CBD.

The health authorities are questioning the latest community case on his travels and whereabouts in the last few weeks, which will possibly determine the source of the infection.

More information on the new community case will be revealed at a press conference later today at 5 p.m.

MoH has asked people who might have visited the place on High Street and Vincent Residency on Vincent Street between 8-11 November to check for symptoms and get tested if feeling unwell and isolate.

Hipkins says there is a plan for dealing with cases in the community and the plan has stamped out community cases before.

Anyone who has symptoms around New Zealand should also seek a test and isolate until they get a negative result, he says.

At this stage the government is not advising changes to other settings.

The imported case arrived on 9 November from Los Angeles, returned a positive test around day 3 and is in quarantine.

Two cases have recovered and the country now has 53 active cases and a total 1635 confirmed cases, Bloomfield says.

On the November cluster, Case C is a civilian NZ Defence Force worker and a close contact of Case B. they went to lunch at Little Penang on The Terrace on Friday last week in Wellington.

They isolated at home on Saturday after developing symptoms and had a test. They initially tested negative but were moved to quarantine as a precaution and tested again, testing positive.

Anyone who visited the Little Penang restaurant last Friday is asked to be very aware of symptoms and isolate and seek testing if they appear.

Household contacts are in isolation already and will remain so for 14 days and be tested.

Hipkins says as information comes to hand they will share that as quickly as they are able. "As we have said all along, people are not the problem, people are the solution. It is the virus that is the problem."

"If you do have cold and flu symptoms please isolate, don't go to work and don't have contact with others."

He says they will provide further advice on mask-wearing later but at the moment, people are only advised to wear them.

He urges people to take the standard simple precautions - mask-wearing, washing hands, distancing.

Bloomfield says the movements of the person in Auckland is still being gathered.

He said he did not want to pass judgement on the person for going to work when they had already sought a test, saying he did not yet know all the details.

He says close contact information at this point is that there are no household contacts, so close contacts so far include co-workers.

"I can't comment on the individual circumstances around this person."
