Another teen held in Garg murder case

Melbourne: Australian police have charged a second teenager for the murder of Indian student Nitin Garg in Melbourne on January 2.

The 16-year-old was arrested by the Homicide Squad detectives from Yarraville.

According to The Age, police said he has been charged with accessory to murder and has been bailed to appear at a Children's Court. The date for the hearing is yet to be set.

On Thursday, a 15-year-old boy, charged with Garg's murder, appeared at a Children's Court.

Police are maintaining that racism was not a reason behind the murder. "Our inquiries, at this stage, we don't believe it was racially motivated," Detective Inspector Bernie Edwards, of the Homicide Squad, said.

Garg (21) was stabbed while he was on his way to work at a fast food outlet through a park in eastern Melbourne after 9.30 pm on January 2.

After the stabbing, an injured Garg staggered to the fast food outlet and died soon after.

Garg's death sparked protests in India over the safety of Indians in Australia.
