Two New Zealand Defence Force personnel celebrated the 550th birth anniversary of Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak at the Takanini Gurudwara complex on Tuesday.
“This evening [Tuesday, November 12], two of our recruiting ambassadors have been celebrating the birthday of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism,” NZDF Defence Careers posted on their Facebook page.
Two NZDF personnel from Sikh community clad in their uniform donning the turban put a table in front of the temple and interacted with hundreds of visitors to the temple who came with families for prayers on Guru Purab.
“Wishing a very happy 550th birthday anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji to you and your family.
“Guru Nanak was born on November 04, 1469 in Rai-Bhoi-di, Talwandi and he was responsible for shaping the beliefs of the Sikhs,” NZDF Defence Careers Facebook page read.
The two personnel interacted with the visitors, especially children telling them about the NZ Defence Force and its career opportunities for aspirants.
“We are collaborating with New Zealand Defence Force and will be involving them in activities once our sports complex is opened in March next year,” Daljit Singh from Supreme Sikh Society told The Indian Weekender.
This year 43 people have travelled from New Zealand to Kartarpur Corridor opening ceremony held last weekend on the occasion of Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary.
Gurudwaras across New Zealand hosted special programmes and prayers services on this particular occasion for the devotees and people of other ethnicity and faiths to visit and learn more about Sikhism.
