Indian flag hoisted at Auckland Townhall

Hon. Consul of India, Bhav Dhillon, attended the annual Auckland Consular Corps flag raising ceremony on Thursday, November 15.
Auckland Mayor, Phil Goff, hosted the 36th annual event outside the Town Hall (Aotea Square Side), which was attended by members of all countries with a diplomatic presence in New Zealand’s largest city.
Countries that maintain a diplomatic presence in Auckland attend the annual ceremony to bring colour and cultural diversity to the consular corps flag-raising event.
Auckland-based international consul generals, honorary consuls and life members of the consular corps gathered to raise their respective flags in an annual event.
This was the first occasion when the Indian flag was raised in this event.
Speaking to The Indian Weekender, Mr Dhillon said, “Indeed it’s a proud moment.
“Hoisting India’s flag is always a privilege, and when the flag is being raised along with an elite group of countries maintaining a diplomatic presence in the biggest city of the South Pacific region, it becomes genuinely joyous.
Delivering the opening address, Mayor Phil Goff acknowledged the work of Auckland Consular corps in fostering cultural, economic and political links, along with promoting an affinity among the diplomatic corps of respective countries.
Consular Corps of Auckland exists to build fellowship amongst and unite foreign representatives in Auckland through events and communications.
