Fijian voters give a tick to Frank Bainimarama

The provisional results suggest that the Fijian voters have given a tick to the incumbent Prime Minister and the leader of Fiji First Party, Frank Bainimarama, with 52.8 per cent votes of the total votes counted so far.

His nearest rival and main opposition leader, leader of SODELPA Party, Sitiveni Rabuka, was held back at 37.18 per cent.

Biman Prasad, the leader of the oldest political party of Fiji, National federation Party (NFP) was trailing at a distant third with 7.53 per cent. However, it crossed the minimum 5 per cent threshold to ensure it returns to the parliament after decades of languishing with 3 seats (as per provisional counting so far).

The elections in South Pacific neighbour Fiji was held on Wednesday, November 14 with some reported disruption after heavy rains.

Fiji's supervisor of elections, Mohammad Saneem, had told a press conference 23 polling venues had become inaccessible due to incessant rain and flooding and polling was ruled out altogether.

Mr Saneem said polling at those locations would begin at a later date, to be announced following consultations between his office and Fiji's Electoral Commission.

This year's vote is the second democratic election to take place in Fiji since a military coup ousted the Government 12 years ago.

The counting is still continued. More details are awaited.
