Amazing Show - Abrupt Ending

There were quite a few shows off late happening in Auckland, particularly attracting international artists. Most of the artists were invited more than once and one such shows was Sunidhi’s on the 7th of March 2014. This milestone show for CFI Events (headed by Ram Iyer) celebrating 10 years of success, co-inciding with around the International women’s day, the show turned out to be a feminist event with Sunidhi whistling, dancing, screaming and even enacting beedi on the stage that unleashed the inhibition of being women and portraying the status on par with the rest of the world. Kudos to Sunidhi.

Sunidhi Chauhan took me on a thrilling musical ride with a variety of tasty songs that fueled my soul. It was hard to stay fastened on the seat with the vibration of the music and power of the voice that came from the 30 year old. Tapping feet, clapping hands and nodding heads were evident throughout the show. The beauty of playback singers performing live is that the audience can feel the song from the eyes of the singer and not just though the lip sync of the actors and actresses on the big screen. Through stage shows like this the voice lenders will turn out to be voice owners and hence the singers enact their own song and singing. What an experience! Watching these singers foreground is in no way comparison to watching a Bollywood movie with these singers at the background.

Sunidhi is undoubtedly a versatile singer and this was evident with her effortless singing songs right from melody Ishq Sufiana through to Sheela ki Jawani, a peppy one. Audience especially the young crowd, became a part of the crew accompanying the singer in both singing and dancing. Agra based Rakesh Maini (Indian Idol runner up) was a fitting match for Sunidhi’s power and vigour on the stage. Musicians as always have been the icing on cake for any music show and a special mention of Prasad Kulkarni, who was on Octopad & Timbale would make this complete. Ashish Ramakrishnan, Mehak Vashist and Ravi Nyayapati played perfect hosts for the event, with Ram Iyer thanking his well wishers and associates for having supported his journey with events over the last 10 years.

As and when the whole show was picking up on the momentum, there came an abrupt ending. Sunidhi rushed as soon as she finished the last song Beedi Jalaile leaving the audience in a puzzled state. It took some time for the audience to realise that show came to an end until there was a responsible announcement by Ashish Ramakrishnan.

This I personally felt was not the right way to end a show. A minimum of Thank You from Sunidhi, or See You or at least a wave of good bye is an expected norm. I was reminded of the quote, “Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground” by Theodore Roosevelt.
