India in focus

September 24 2009
India is the latest subject of award winning New Zealand photographer Chris Morton’s latest exhibition in Auckland in October.
Morton is an international award winning photographer. He works primarily in the fields of landscape and documentary photography.
This exhibition, Eye Contacts – Portraits in India, focuses on work carried out in India while working with Magnum photographer Steve McCurry. The images were taken in the provinces of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in March 2009.
Morton says he found the Indian people very open to the photographer. The connection he made with them was remarkable and this clearly shows in the photographs.
This work reveals an engagement with his subjects and as you look into the eyes a story is told.
He has won awards and recognition for his work in New Zealand and internationally.
As one of the photographers working on the Our Place World Heritage Project Chris has carried out assignments in a number of diverse locations around the world including China, Yemen, India and Tanzania.
Chris is currently working on several books the first of which is to be published in New
Zealand next year.
The Eye Contacts exhibition, set to coincide with the Diwali Festival, will be held at the Bath St Gallery, Parnell, from October 9-16.
