King of Comedy to play ‘Krishan vs Kanhaiya’
The drama is about an atheist's battle with God. It is an adaptation of the Gujarati comedy Kanjee Virrudh Kanjee, directed by Umesh Shukla who has also directed the Hindi version. The troupe performed 51 shows in 53 days all across USA and Canada; Rawal had staged two comic capers Shaadi@Barbaadi.com and Naughty@Forty over five years ago in various parts of the US and other countries. It is a story of an atheist who incurs huge losses when his antique shop is destroyed by an earthquake. The story revolves around the fight of the atheist with the Almighty. The audience reviewed the play with glorious statements such as, “do not miss the hilarious comedy play”, “Bollywood star Paresh Rawal is the King of comedy acts on stage”, “Those who could not see this play, will repenting”.
After his first performance, Paresh Rawal thanked his audience and stated, “I am producing and acting in a play after almost 5 years because theater needs lots of time and commitment. I can do justice to it only when I am not shooting for any film. He also said, “I love to perform in the United States of America and now I have the chance to make you nonstop laugh. But remember, it’s not mindless comedy.” "I have wrapped up my shooting commitments. In fact, I had kept myself away from movie shoots even when I started rehearsing," says Rawal who was recently seen in Priyadarshan's Aakrosh.
"I am producing and acting in a play after a long gap. Theatre needs a lot of time. I can do justice to it only when I am not shooting for any film. This is why I am taking time off to focus only on theatre," he adds. "I will start afresh in Bollywood after I am back." Anyone who knows a bare minimum of Bollywood needs no introduction to Paresh Rawal. He is amongst the elite class of the best actors ever produced by India. A National Award as well as multiple filmfare awards winner he has enthralled us with his performances for over 25 years. Rawal made his debut with the 1984 film Holi. In 1994, he won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performances in the films Woh Chokri and Sir. For the latter, he also received his first Filmfare Award for Best Comedian. This was followed by Ketan Mehta's Sardar, which saw him playing the lead role of freedom fighter Vallabhbhai Patel, a role that got him not only national but international acclaim.
