A grand evening of kirtan

A musical evening with a difference is planned for April in Auckland.

A Kirtan Sammelan (devotional songs programme) featuring children and women will be held at the Auckland Ramayan Sanstha Trust Hall in Skipton Rd, in Mangere, on April 17.

And organizer Satya Dutt, of Manukau, says the gathering is for a good cause as all proceeds will be going to charitable causes in the community.

Thirty participants in three categories (under 10, U-15, and Ladies Open) are expected to take part in the event which is being put together by the Adarsh Satsangh Ramayan Mandali of Auckland.

Proceeds from the show will:

-         Help with fundraising activities of the newly formed Hindi Language and Culture Trust, which is aiming to get Hindi taught in New Zealand schools.

-         Help the Friends of Fiji organization in New Zealand. The Friends is a medical team which carries out much needed surgeries in Fiji for free.

-         Help with medical treatments of non-residents who need extra monetary help while in New Zealand;

-         Go towards education of poor children in Fiji.

The main prize is two tickets to Fiji – with one going to an outstanding participant, and the other to a lucky door prize winner.

Other prizes of vouchers, gifts and certificates are also being organized. Tickets: $10.

Dutt said they still needed for participants and those interested could contact him on 09 273-9674, 021 1127291, or email satyadutt@hotmail.com
