"We announce with great sadness that an Indian student was killed in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. His family has been contacted by the Ministry. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family "The Ministry of External Affairs sent out a tweet.

The Russian military assault caused substantial damage in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, according to videos. The city's largest government building was blown up in one video.

According to Pooja Praharaj, a student coordinator in Kharkiv, the student who died went out for lunch.

Ms Praharaj, a final-year medical student at the University of Kharkiv.

"He'd merely gone to fetch something to eat. We supplied food for those in the hostel, but he stayed in an apartment close behind the Governor's House. He'd been in line for about an hour and a half. The Governor's House was blown up by an air strike, and he was killed as a result "Ms. Praharaj explained.

A long convoy of Russian military vehicles was seen on highways northwest of Kyiv, according to satellite pictures. The photographs supplied by a US-based space technology company show hundreds of tanks, towed artillery, armoured, and logistical vehicles.

In Ukraine, over 16,000 Indian students remain stuck. Since the Russian invasion began last Thursday, many students have published photographs and videos from subterranean bunkers, metro stations, and bomb shelters on social media. Approximately 8,000 Indian nationals have departed on a variety of special aircraft.

Several Indian students are stuck in eastern Ukraine, which has been hardest hit by Russia's military offensive, and they are finding it difficult to access the western borders by road. Students have also been going to the border in sub-zero temperatures in the hopes of crossing and catching a flight back home.

The embassy had encouraged students to proceed to the Kyiv railway station yesterday, where Ukraine had planned special evacuation trains to transport them to the western region.

Many students complained that they were not allowed to board the trains or they were mistreated by officials.

Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on Thursday after months of tension over the former Soviet republic's proximity to NATO.
