Hair-say in B’town breaks gender barriers

Wind-swept, flowing long tresses is no longer the epitome of femininity – at least not in Bollywood. But then Bollywood sets the trend for street fashion in India, as well as Indians abroad.
You got it! Cropped, neat hair-do, often Tom-boyish, is the look to sport this season. The trend has been growing its roots for a while now, till it found a firm footing in Jaggu (Anushka Sharma) in the film ‘PK’.
A few others to have joined the bandwagon include sassy Sonakshi Sinha, who tweeted: “I did it mostly on an impulse, though. Everyone thinks it's really gutsy to go cut off your long hair, but I just woke up one day, and went for it!”
Just prior to that, the Bachchan bahu Aishwarya donned a cropped look for a TV commercial. After flaunting her long hair like an adarsh Bhartiya naari, when she is actually living it in real life, she looked the other way.
In an all-new avatar, the 41-year-old former Miss World appears in chic blunt look for the hair product promotion.
The latest in the list is “adventurous” Priyanka. Before getting her locks chopped off, she tweeted: “Time to do something spontaneous!! Feeling a bit adventurous. Chopping the tresses!”
She even shared a photograph of her new look on Facebook. Sporting a black ensemble and red lips, she showed off her new short hairdo with highlights in the photograph.
Her fans have already given her thumbs up for the new look – using words like “wow”, “beautiful” and “cool”. These approvals have, thus, challenged the conventionally accepted appearance of women, opening up the doors to experiment with alternatives.
