Delhi 6 : Nostalgic, but zzzz!

When you’ve been away from home and anything that makes you belong there makes you feel nostalgic,
Filmed in the heart of Old Delhi (fondly known as
The story is of a family whose son has gone to the United States and decided to lead his life there, had his mum (played by Waheeda Rehman) falling prey to cancer and her grandson (Abhishek Bachchan) decides to make her last wish (of going back to her roots in India and die in her motherland) a reality, and in the process comes around to a cultural shock and realises how different life can be in different parts of the world.
The film also gives everyone (abroad or within India who have not been to the walled city) a close insight as to how close the different communities (Hindus and Muslims) live in Delhi 6 and the carefree, easy going and embracing attitude of the residents of walled city.
With big names including Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Prem Chopra, Waheeda Rehman and the acclaimed Om Puri, the film is successful in making you miss India, but as a whole fails to keep one interested long enough to find out what’s going to happen next.
A delight is the number of songs and the frequency at which they appear.
Weak performances from almost all cast, along with a weak screenplay and direction, make it a dull night out with the family.
The only bright spark is the police inspector and the sweeper Jalebi (Divya Dutta) who succeed in putting a smile on everyone’s faces.
On my movie meter, a generous rating of 1.5 stars out of 5 is all it deserves.
