Shankar-Purbayan Team up for London Fest

Kolkata: Versatile singer Shankar Mahadevan and sitar ace Purbayan Chatterjee
announced their upcoming musical endeavour, London's Alchemy Festival, last
week.

Classical singer Kaushiki Deshikan was also present at the occasion.

On talking about London's Alchemy Festival, Mahadevan said, "This type of
event helps to take our music to the western level."

"I had worked with Purbayan once with his band  'String truck', and it is a
complete  genre of Indian classical music in combination with lots of western
elements," he added.

About Kolkata, Mahadevan said that this city is full of rich heritage and food and
it has also retains the culture.

He also expressed his willingness to work in a Bengali movie.

On the city visit on Tuesday, the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy regaled the audience
in a concert with Mahadevan`s soul touching voice, Ehsaan Noorani`s
dynamic  Acoustic Guitar and Loy Mendonsa`s finesse in Grand Piano.

Alchemy Festival is into the third year and is organized by Southbank Centre
to explore the richness, contrasts and connections between the UK, India and
South Asian culture.

Chatterjee said, "The concept of this festival is to bring together diverse cultures,
specially the South Asian culture."

Mahadevan and Chatterjee will perform a Jugalbandi on April 21, at the festival in
London.

The festival will start from April 12 and will continue till April 22.
