Bainimarama promises 2 new bridges

Suva: The Government will construct two new bridges in the upper hills of Namosi to help villagers travel to urban areas and to transport their produce to markets.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, who visited Namosi yesterday, also stated that Government was looking at constructing a road in the area.
He made the remarks during his visit to Wainiyavu Village in the interior of Namosi.
Speaking in itaukei language, the Prime Minister said Government would construct the two bridges at Namado and Wainiyavu.
“The bridge at Namado will cost Government $3million while Wainiyavu Bridge will cost $1m,” Commodore Bainimarama said.
“Government has allocated $4m towards the construction of two bridges.
“Government in the past years also assisted the province of Namosi in self help projects worth $1.2million, access roads worth $80,000, maintenance of government roads worth $20,000, supply of horses to assist villagers carry their goods worth $6,000, education assistance worth $128,000.00, there were 903 recipients who received social welfare out of the 1000 that applied and in the forestry sector Government allocated $30,000,” he said.
Commodore Bainimarama said his Government was committed to develop the lives of rural dwellers and improve economic activities.
The Prime Minister also elaborated on the issue of reforms that Government was undertaking.
“These reforms will definitely improve government machinery,” he said.
The Prime Minister and his government delegation walked for two hours to reach Wainiyavu Village.
There are five villages in this tikina of Veinuqa and they are Wainiyavu, Vunidavo, Wainilotulevu, Burotu and Nasoqo.
These five villages are not accessible by roads.
Namosi provincial administrator, Mr Viliame Rakai said the visit by the Prime Minister was to witness for himself the hardships faced by the tikina Veinuqa.
An emotional Wainiyavu Village headman, Mr Petero Matavutuka said the visit by the Prime Minister was a timely one for the tikina of Veinuqa.
