New Delhi: The Russian Ambassador to India lashed out at countries in 'India's vicinity' that provide shelter and financing to terrorists, in wake of the suicide attacks on the Moscow subway on Monday.
Alexander M. Kadakin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of India, said that the attacks on the Moscow subway, which killed over 40 people, were 'acts of cowardice'.
"No right cause could ever be achieved through the killing of innocent women and children," Kadakin said, referring to the blasts in the Russia's capital city on Monday.
Hitting out at countries that aid the terrorists, he said "We know very well which countries provide shelter to terrorists and are funding them."
He said such a country was 'right in the vicinity' of the country he was in, indicating to Pakistan.
"These terrorists have no nationality nor any conscience. They are just bandits. They die for no cause", he told a news channel.
At least 40 people have been killed in two separate blasts in central Moscow metro stations on Monday morning, media reports said.
A suicide bomber reportedly blew himself up in the Lubyanka station killing at least 25 people and injuring 10 others.
Around 40 minutes later, a second explosion occurred at the Park Kultury station.
As many as 25 people were killed at the Lubyanka station blast, a government spokesperson said.
TV visuals of the blast sites showed bodies lying all over the place.
In the first blast, fourteen of the killed were in the train and the others were on the platform. The station is located next to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) headquarters.
Reports said at least 15 people were killed in the second blast.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has condoled the loss of lives in the bomb blasts in Moscow and has expressed India’s solidarity with Russia in combating violence and terrorism.
In a letter to President Medvedev, the Prime Minister said the blasts were a most tragic and horrific act of violence.
“It is with great anguish that I have learnt of the bomb blasts in Moscow, which have led to the loss of so many innocent lives. This is a most tragic and horrific act of violence. At this difficult hour our thoughts are with you, the people of Russia and the families and friends of the victims of this terrible tragedy," read Singh's message.
"On behalf of the Government and people of India, I convey our deepest condolences. I wish to assure you that India stands united with Russia in combating the forces of violence and terrorism," it added.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also condemned the Moscow bombings that claimed at least 40 lives.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this morning's bombings in Moscow, their families, and all the people of Russia. This brutal assault on innocent civilians is another reminder that terrorism is a threat to peace-loving people everywhere and must be met with unwavering resolve," she said.
